The location

It took us about 7 hours to drive from Saratoga to Patrick’s Point, but it was well worth it. The weather was great and it was nice to be away from Internet connections and cell service (depending on where we were standing). Since everyone asks where it is, the map is above.

The vacation

OK...For starters, this is the first time that we did not actually camp at Patrick’s Point, instead we rented a cabin for the week and “roughed it” that way. We shared the place with Annette’s parents and it worked out great - well...as good as it can get living with the in-laws for a week :) The place was cozy and the “yard” was amazing. We were right up against the coast and usually woke up to the sounds of sea lions on the rocks. We were only 1 mile from the camp site and we spent a majority of the time with friends and family at the camping site during the day.

Spending our days

The kids wanted to hang out with their cousins and ride bikes, skate boards, or whatever kids do. Annette and her sisters liked going down to the beach to look for agates (they say they are semi-precious stones although they look like rocks to me).

This is serious business to the girls. Low tide was their prime hunting time.

As for me, I was off looking for good photo opportunities. I took my Macro lens and tried to find cool pictures of bugs and snails...A little desperate I know, but still interesting.

The area is also known for the large herds of Elk and so I made a couple of trips to find Elk to photograph. Here is one of them

The group

We had a large group of people (mostly from Annette’s sisters side of the family) and we made quite a scene when we would get together. Here is a group shot of all of us.

Day tripping

We made numerous day trips during the week. The whole gang went to Fern Canyon which is a very cool place to visit. (They even filmed part of Jurassic Park in this place).

And at other times, smaller groups of us would check out other areas like the town of Ferndale which is known for their victorian homes.

The holiday

Since it was the 4th of July, no trip would be complete without sparklers and fireworks (which were legal in this area). So...we bought some and headed to the beach. It was cold and windy but still fun.
