Capturing the Beauty and Culture of Morocco

Morocco is like no other country I have ever visited. Each stop will present you with a wide variety of photos, from the towering Hassan II mosque in Casablanca, the blue city of Chefchaouen, the markets of Marrakech, to the endless sand dunes of the Sahara. Morocco offers a diverse range of subjects that will inspire you. This trip is more than a vacation, it is a chance for me to inspire you to capture the light, texture and wonder of this land.

Over the course of 15 immersive days, this photo tour traverses the full breadth of Morocco, meticulously designed to capture the very essence of its soul, heritage and diverse cultural landscape.

Here is what our typical itinerary looks like

Day 1: Casablanca

We all meet at our hotel in the morning and head out for a tour of Casablanca. The main attraction is the Hassan II Mosque. We will photograph the mosque from the outside, finding different angles and views. We will also make a visit to this location in the evening to get a "blue hour" shot (like the one you see to the right).

Day 2: Casablanca / Rabat Chefchaouen

In the morning we will visit the inside of the Hassan II Mosque which is a really amazing place to photograph. Then we will make our way towards Chefchaouen, stopping at the capitol city of Rabat along the way. There we will visit the Mausoleum of Muhammed V to get photos of that building and the guards surrounding it. We will arrive in Chefchaouen in time for late afternoon photos of the incredible blue city..

Day 3: Chefchaouen

We will leave our hotel before 8am and walk the streets of Chefchaouen before all the tourists and vendors are out and about. We will have clean views of the alleyways and streets!

In the afternoon, you are free to roam the streets yourself and take more photos. There is also a lot of shopping here.

Day 4: Chefchaouen / Volubilis / Fes

We have one more morning in the city of Chefchaouen before heading off to our next adventures. On our way to Fes, we stop at the Roman ruins of Volubilis. This is an amazing photo location and history lesson at the same time. After spending some time roaming the ruins, we will drive to Fes to have dinner at our riad.

Day 5: Fes

The city of Fes is defined by it's narrow walkways through the medina. We will guide you through the maze of the medina to some great photo locations. Like in Chefchaouen, our goal is to leave early enough to avoid the crowds.

Day 6: Fes

On this day we are really changing things up as we head to the largest tannery in Fes. This place is a photographers dream (even if it smells bad), with amazing photos from high above the vats, to being down at eye levels with the workers (for those who choose to do so). If you like capturing portraits of people, you will go crazy here. We will also visit other great areas in the city.

Day 7: Fes / Monkeys / Midelt / Erfoud / Merzouga

Today is a lot of driving. Good thing we have a comfortable bus that holds 28 people, even though we only have a group of 14 (including Laura and I). We leave Fes and head towards the desert, stopping at some cool places along the way. There is even a place to capture photos of monkeys in Morocco!

You will see beautiful landscape on the drive, showing stark contrasts of warm dry land, with snowy mountains in the background.

Day 8: Sahara Desert

We’ll head into dunes of the Sahara Desert for some 4-wheel driving fun, and check out the camels making their way through the sand. We will get nice photos of the camels during the day AND at sunset! You have a choice to ride a camel or take an SUV into the dunes.

Day 9: Sahara Desert / Skoura

From the desert, you will take the SUV back to meet up with your driver and you will head towards Skoura. The beautiful palm tree valley makes this a picturesque drive. You will have lunch along the journey, and eventually end up in Skoura. You will enjoy photographing the palmary and the ancient Kasbah. Dinner will be served at the Kasbah.

Day 10: Skoura / Kasbah Ait BenHaddou

We will leave the sand dunes behind and drive to the town of Skoura, where you will see vendors selling the local dates and other items. This is a short stop on our way to the Kasbah Ait BenHaddou (where they have filmed many movies and TV shows). We will arrange for a portrait session with a local and his camels (like you see to the right) and also have unique locations to take portraits from within the Kasbah.

Day 11: Kasbah Ait BenHaddou / Marrakech

We will drive from the Kasbah to the amazing city of Marrakech. Along the way, we will stop at numerous locations for more portraits and landscapes.

Day 12: Marrakech

Marrakech is like one giant market, with everything from clothing vendors, to olive stands, food galore and even snake whisperers. We will guide you through the area, but also give you time to roam and shop if you want. As the sun gets ready to set, we will bring you to a great rooftop location for overhead photos of the market (like you see to the right).

Day 13: Marrakech / Essaouira

After breakfast, we will tour more of Marrakech, and take portraits of the water sellers in the main square. After touring the city a little more, we will make our way to the coastal town of Essaouira.

Day 14: Essaouira / Marrakech

Essaouira is a port city and resort in Morocco, with an 18th-century ramparts surrounding the old village. It is an active fishing village with plenty of blue boats and fishermen. There is more shopping here, in an environment that is not as hectic as Casablanca or Marrakech. After one night of relaxing in Essaouira, it is time to drive back to Marrakech for one last night in the country.

Day 15: Marrakech / Depart

This is our final day/night in Morocco. We will arrange for transportation to get you to the airport for your departure home. You will leave this country with fond memories and amazing photos!

Plan to arrive in Casablanca the day before our Day 1 or even two days early if you prefer..

Departure:
Book your return flight from Marrakech on the final day, giving us time to get you to the airport.

Since I typically go to Morocco in the March time frame, you expect varying weather, from cool mornings to warm days. The temperatures tend to increase as we travel to the desert and beyond.

Don’t worry—this is all part of the experience, and I’ve selected dates to avoid the peak heat of Moroccan summer.

🏞 Physical Requirements

This trip requires minimal physical effort.
No long hikes—most photography happens close to our vehicles with short walks.
You should be comfortable getting in and out of a vehicle and walking brief distances.

A: Yes, we have access to western restrooms at almost all locations.

Q: What kind of food is served?
A: Delicious, local meals—nothing too exotic or too unusual.

Q: What if I have dietary restrictions?

Q: Are there any long walks or hikes?
A: There are times when we will walk through a city. It is nothing very strenuous.

Q: Do I need to be a professional photographer?
