Tanzania Safari with Jeff Cable

I have lead many photo tours to Africa and Tanzania remains one of my favorite locations on this amazing continent. With the plethora of wildlife and the endless beauty of the country, there is no shortage of images to be captured and memories to be made. If you want to join me on a safari of a lifetime, this is the trip for you. They say "You can leave Africa, but Africa never leaves you" and that is so true!

We end at Gibbs Farm which is one of the most luxurious lodges in all of Tanzania. I also use stretch vehicles which hold 8 people but never put more than 4 people per vehicle.  This allows for plenty of room for camera gear and also makes it easier for everyone in the vehicle to have a clear view of the wildlife.

And...as a bonus...since Canon sponsors me, they will let you borrow almost any camera and lens for this trip at no cost! This is not to say that you have to be a Canon shooter to join the group. I teach people using all brands.

If you would like to join me on this awesome 12 day photo tour, please contact me as soon as possible to secure a spot. You can see all the photo tours on my tour page.

After that we will embark on an afternoon game-drive till evening. This park is often referred to as the “home of elephants” and you have a great chance to spot elephants in large groups gathering around the Tarangire River. Other animals to be spotted include leopards, lions, giraffes and even tree-climbing pythons!  Dinner and overnight stay at Tarangire Ndovu Camp.

Ngorongoro Crater

We'll drive from Tarangire to the crater and arrive at our lodge in mid afternoon where we'll relax and get ready for our descent into the crater tomorrow morning.  Overnight at Serena Lodge Ngorongoro.

Serengeti National Park

We'll head out for the crater early and spend until 3PM in the crater stopping to enjoy lunch as well.

The crater is a prime chance to photograph rhinos, lions, birds, and more.

Leaving the crater we'll drive to our camp in the central Serengeti National Park. We descend into the heart of wild Africa with its endless plains rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see.  We arrive in camp in the early evening after enjoying a game-drive in the awesome Serengeti.  Dinner and overnight at Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge.

Day 6: CENTRAL SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK FULL DAY

On this day we will do an early morning game drive in the wilderness and return to the lodge for breakfast.  After breakfast, with picnic lunch boxes, we will proceed for a full day of game-drives in the Serengeti.  We will return to the lodge in the late afternoon to freshen up before dinner.  Dinner and overnight at Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge.

Day 7: CENTRAL SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK – NDUTU

After breakfast we will drive to Lake Ndutu area which is situated in the Ngorongoro conservation area and part of the southern Serengeti ecosystem.  I love this area because we can drive off-road and get up close to the wildlife.

We arrive in time for lunch at the lodge, and after lunch we will do an afternoon game drive in the Ndutu area.

The majority of the wildebeest migration can normally be found on the short-grass plains from December to April.  The area is usually heavily populated with elephants, birds and resident game.  Dinner and overnight at Lake Masek Tented Lodge.

Ndutu

Day 8: NDUTU FULL DAY

After breakfast, enjoy a full day game drive in the Ndutu area. Explore the range of different habitats that include swamps, woodland, soda lakes and the world-famous Serengeti short grass plains. See great herds of wildebeest and zebras.  During this time of year, the majority of the wildebeest are calving (giving birth).

The sea of grass provides little cover and the young are easy pickings for a variety of predators.  Wildebeest calves can run minutes after they are born and within 3 days, they are normally strong enough to keep up with the herd.  Dinner and overnight at Lake Masek Tented Lodge.

Day 9: NDUTU FULL DAY

Enjoy a full day game-drive in the Ndutu area.  Dinner and overnight at Lake Masek Tented Lodge.

Day 10: NDUTU

Enjoy an early morning breakfast then we enjoy game-drive en-route as we head back to Karatu and our lodging.  Dinner and overnight at Gibbs Farm, which is one of the finest lodges in Tanzania.

To find the dates of future trips, please visit the Tour page.

Each trip will be limited to just 11 guests. This will give us plenty of one-on-one time together.

The goal: Have a great time and come away with amazing photos!

For your return flight, you will want to book a flight home on our the last day of the trip.

Skill level

This trip is designed for photographers of all levels. You do not need to be a professional photographer to go on this trip. As a matter of fact, I have taken many novices and they have come back with awesome photos. I have taken people with SLR cameras, mirrorless cameras, and even mobile phones.  My job is to teach you how to get the best photos with whatever camera you have. You do need to be mobile since we do a fair amount of walking on this trip.

Cost

The cost for this trip is $13,995 all inclusive of internal transportation, hotels, lodges, food and non-alcoholic drinks.

Camera Gear Suggestions

Tanzania offers plentiful photographic opportunities and you will want to have the right photography gear with you to capture the best photos in this location. Here is what I recommend:

* Two camera bodies (one as a backup)

* A long zoom lens (400mm or longer)

* A mid-range zoom lens (in the 24-150mm range)

* High capacity memory cards (because we take a lot of photos on safari)

* A good camera bag

* A laptop computer for downloading and editing

* An external hard drive for backing up your data

If you are reading this and thinking "I don't have two camera bodies or one of those lenses", don't worry. Canon has offered to supply any of my workshop attendees with loaner gear at no cost!!! All you have to do is let me know what gear you would like.
